In a very short time Sheila found her mother-in-law could not get along with her at all. Their personalities were different and she ws angered by her mother-in law's habits. She was going on abusing and criticising for her any type of action. All the anger and unrest in the house was causing Sheila's husband great distress. Finally she could not stand her mother-in-law's bad temper and dictatorship. She wanted to do something about it. She went to her father's friend who is a village doctor and asked him to give some thing to be given to her mother-in-law who is making her life miserable so that her problem could be solved once and for all.
The father's friend thought for a while and went to the back room and after some time she came back and gave some herbs and told her,"You can't use a quick-acting poison to get rid of your mother-in-law because that would cause people to become suspicious. I have given a number of herbs that will slowly build up poison in her body. Everyday prepare a delicious meal and put a little of these herbs. In order to make sure that no body suspects you, when she dies, you must be careful to act very friendly towards her. Don't argue with her? Obey her every wish and treat her like a queen?"
She thanked the uncle profusely and hurried home to start her plot of murdering her. Months went by. Everyday she served specially prepared food to her liking and controlled her temper, obeyed her mother-in-law implicitly and treated her like her own mother.
After six months, the whole household changed. Sheila pratised controlling her temper so much that she found that she never got mad or upset. She has not had any argument with her mother-in-law because she now seemed much tender and easier to get along with.
The mother-in-law's attitude towards Sheila changed. She began to love her like her own daughter. She kept telling people and relatives that Sheila was the best daughter-in-law one could ever find. Both were treating each other like a real mother and own daughter.
Her husband and the other members of the family were relieved and they were all happy to see what was happening. One day Sheila came to her father friend's ( doctor) house and asked for his help again and said, " Dear uncle ! Please help me as I am slowly poisoning her: One day she may die.
She has changed into such a nice person and I love her like my own mother. I don't want her to die because of the poison I gave her everyday !" He smiled and said, " There is nothing to worry about.
I never gave you any poison. The herbs I gave were vitamins to improve her health. The only poison was in your mind and your attitude towards her but that has been washed away by the love which you gave her. Love begets love."
